Imagine balancing yourself on one leg while using two drumsticks to select your answers on an electrified board game designed to improve your cognition and reduce your fall risk, in a dress suit with heels. Ventura County Supervisor Kelly Long, District 3, knocked it out of the park on Jan. 26 when she visited the Camarillo Health Care District and participated in one of the many programs of the Camarillo Health Care District’s Fall Prevention and Strengthening services. Long’s district includes central and southern portions of Camarillo, including parts of the Camarillo Health Care District.
Imperial Valley Healthcare District Directors Take An Oath to Serve
A year after Assembly Bill 918 was introduced into the Legislature in an effort to coalesce the county’s medical community, the initial Imperial Valley Healthcare District Board of Directors was sworn in on Friday, Feb. 2, at El Centro City Council chambers. Authored by Assembly member Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella, AB 918 — the Imperial Valley Healthcare District bill — was signed into law by Gov. Newsom on Oct. 8 with the end goal of dissolving and combining Brawley’s Pioneers Memorial and Calexico’s Heffernan Memorial healthcare districts and folding in the city-owned El Centro Regional Medical Center for a single-system healthcare district in what Garcia has said is meant to eliminate redundancies, increase state and federal reimbursements and save the region’s financially ailing medical institutions.
Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad honors longtime employee
Soledad Community Health Care District (SCHCD) recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of Olga Morales, a devoted staff member at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad. The Jan. 26 celebration, held at the Eden Valley Skilled Nursing Facility, brought together community members, staff and friends to express gratitude to Morales for her 25 years of dedicated service. “Soledad Community Health Care District is deeply honored to have … expressed our profound appreciation to Olga Morales for 25 years of unwavering commitment to the well-being of our residents,” said SCHCD CEO Ida Lopez Chan.
During a special meeting Monday evening, board members learned more about recent developments in the district’s negotiations, voting on two measures that will keep their options open. Negotiations continue between the nonprofit that owns Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs and the for-profit company that wants to buy it, leaving some board members concerned about the pace of talks.
Mendocino Coast Health Care District Elects New Officers
At a special meeting Thursday evening, Paul Garza, Jr. was elected as the new Chair of the Mendocino Coast Health Care District Board of Directors. Garza is the first Latino/Latinx to serve as Chair of the Board and one of few Latino elected officials in the County. He is also a County appointee to the Sonoma Mendocino Economic Development District, Past Chair of West Business Development Center and a member of the Redwood Region RISE’s Equity Council.
David Saÿen named president of the Alameda Health System Board of Trustees
Alameda Health System (AHS) announced on Wednesday, Jan. 10 that David Saÿen has been named president of the AHS Board of Trustees. The board is charged with governing AHS, the integrated public health care provider that has served Alameda County since 1864 and delivers expert care to more than 110,000 patients per year across its facilities.
Peninsula Health Care District grants over $1 million to nonprofit organizations
On Wednesday, Jan. 17, the Peninsula Health Care District announced that several community organizations will split over $1 million in grants for its 2024 cycle. Recipients work with the Peninsula community on four specific issues: healthy aging, mental health, preventive health and equity in health.
