District Best Practice Session #4: Improving Employee Engagement, Culture and Safety

This session will showcase four programs Tahoe Forest Health System has implemented since 2017, which have improved the culture and employee engagement. These programs have improved engagement from the 63rd to the 92nd engagement percentile. These programs include Just Culture Principles and High Reliability, PEAK Program, a career ladder program, and Peer Support. Additionally, speakers will introduce a group called Values Advocates. Through these programs, Tahoe Forest Health System has significantly improved patient and employee safety, morale, trust, and overall organizational culture.

Presented by Alex MacLennan, Chief HR Officer, Tahoe Forest Health System
Alex MacLennan is the Chief Human Resources Officer for Tahoe Forest Health System in Truckee, CA. His early career began in Firefighting and Emergency Medical Service on the East Coast. He also worked in a hospital emergency department, where he gained his love for the healthcare industry. After an injury, he transitioned from his work firefighting into teaching full-time for Tahoe Forest Health System. His role in learning and development led him into Human Resources, becoming the point of contact for employee relations, further developing his passion for strategic HR.
As the Chief Human Resources Officer, he strives to develop a healthcare culture based on trust and fairness. When comparing hospitals nationally, his and his teams' work has taken employee engagement at Tahoe Forest Health System from the 59th to the 92st percentile.Alex is a husband and father with a passion for people who cares deeply about the success of those around him.
